EDITING TODAY.
Rina was the editor and she was quite a slow worker.. so in the end we got no choice as the hereafter closes at 6 but to let jingyuan bring the work home to complete it. Therefore rina will be put in charge of the 2 sided script. Basically quite pleased with out work in a waybut i think it can be better if there is more time. But oh wells. At least we tried hard.
LAST BLOG POST AND TMR 9 MUST REACH SCHOOL TO PRINT!
Reflections of the whole block. I dont really fancy multicams that much though it might come handy for live feat programmes but maybe it is because there are only like 4 people in a group so its like kinda small for multi cams.. But class is fun when you get to touch more hands on stuffs like Rozali coming in to teach lightings.
SIP IS COMING!! im nervous and anxious...

STOP MOTION
WE GOT AN IDEA!!!
We are going to do a stop motion of a little guy walking through the different attractions that represents Singapore and at the end he came to a stop at this television and we will zoom in and then we start to show the video that we shot yesterday.
So we started but cramping into one of the 3-10 rooms to use the materials that jingyuan and i brought to school. And we started to create this little guy with papers and after the little guy was done, we went on to draw the Esplanade, the Singapore Flyer, the Changi Airport, the Merlion, HDBs and trees as all this are the attraction and unique point of singapore. We also added airplane, clouds and birds to make it realistic (:
So after we are done drawing, it was already like 6+ pm. So we wanted a brick wall for a background and we choose the route outside the TV studio as there are different colours to choose from and we chose RED in the end as it is the colour of the singapore flag.
So we started moving frame by frame and we keep cofusing ourselves with the legs movements(me), the movement of the trees (rina) and the height of the attractions (jingyuan). Gary keeps claiming that he got good directing skills to direct us through this stop motion. LOL! do you think so? HAHHAHA! But he did remind me frequently about the leg actions. THANK Q U! to ce kai too who always helped us for most productions (:
DONE AT 9+ - 10 +...
took us long to get a 30 sec video. WOAH. it worth the work (: LOVES.

SHOOT
The day started out with me waking up to visit the doctor. Apparantly my mum thinks that coughing for 2 weeks is not that normal anymore. So i have to spend like 43 singapore dollars to go and see my family doctor to get cough syrup and 2 tablets for my throat. . . IT DAMN EXPENSIVEEEEE!!!!! OH MY! all thanks to swine and i feel sorry for my pocket. So i went to school since im swine-free and went on with my shoot. We started with painting the flag and we had fun painting it behind the canteen with people looking at us as though we are mad. LOL! A Singapore Flag! HAHA! So after waiting for our cast for quite sometime to finish their classes, we finally started shoot at 5+ which is quite late for an outdoor shoot. Thus of course, it affected our lightings and the footages turns out to be flat. But luckily, to get the 90s feel, we dont need to have such wonderful lightings in a way. So we went on to set up our cameras to one at the frontial view, one at the left top angle and one right low angle. We got our cast settle quickly and started to direct them with the actions and timing. All goes well with us changing the original storyboard abit for the PAP part. Instead of alot 'parliment members', we changed to only one standing on the trolly due to lack of cast. By 7 30, we had already done with our shoot (:
So initally, to show that we want to be in part of the video, we decided to sing the pledge ourselves. But when we realise that our video was only 30 second long (according to the recording), we were shocked and proceed on to call YOU (bertrand). Hearing you asked whether its a ZHAI piece of work, ... i got not much comment cause of some circumstance like the lightings and all. So we went home and brainstorm for more ideas to prolong the video. WITHOUT requiring any cast as all DES students are currently rushing for their submission. So ...ya thats it.

CHANGE OF PLAN!
Unlike what we had planned, we did not shoot today. Due to us being not prepare for the shoot as in the costumes. We planned to have a racial harmony shot whereby our cast wear their race's traditional costume. But... WE COULDN'T FIND A CHINESE ONE!!! STUPID CHINESE! opps. HAHA! so we went on to search for the clothings. Initially we could have gotten one. But it turns out to be false alarm.. so... since we got no choice, we decide to let the chinese wear a malay costume in the end. Its still RACIAL HARMONY(: Then we await for tomorrow's shoot and hope that things will go smoothly with the cast and all. oh! and since we cannot fins a place thats near with flag pole, we deicde to make even more props (: we are going to draw our own flag and paste it to the backdrop. YIPPEE!

YIPEE!
Consultation went great cause the idea was being approved (:
To re-emphasize on our idea again. We are doing a 90s kind of video as we thought that during the 90s, the effect of a national day was much more stronger then now. One specific part was the national day songs. It used to be much more impactful songs like "count on me singapore" or "stand up for singapore". But now? What we currently have was pop music like "moment of magic" which i think not everyone remember those lyrics. So to us, or maybe me, what makes a national day video works was to keep it simple and understandable by all ages so that people are able to relate to it. Thats whats more important then effects or aesthetically nice shots.
Oh my scanner can't work so i will just have to type them out in words.

'we the citizens of Singapore' -- Shot of people standing in front of a Singapore flag; they puting their hands to where their heart is and tilt heads 45 degree towards the sky
'Pledge outselves as one united people' -- Shot against a grass patch; hands of different races put together
'Regardless of race, language or religion' -- Shot with HDB background; people wearing different race costume
'To build a democratic society' -- Shot action of building with cast nearer to us and the build more further away to creating the building effect
'Based on justice and equality' -- Shot of people wearing white (PAP); waving towards camera
'So as to achieve, happiness' -- Shot of people standing in a line and turn head to the right
'prosperity' -- Shot of people standing in the same line and turn head to the left
'and progress for our nation' -- Shot of people in the same line but facing front and doing the hand actions (welcoming action)
Hope you people understand!
DATES TO TAKE NOTE.

OH NO!
GARY, JINGYUAN and ME.
The three biggest idiots and loser.
HAHA! We came for class not knowing that there is no class. So we ended up staying in the canteen for 3 hours. This is the second time this happened. How funny. But luckily, time is not wasted as we had the brief for the assignment 2 and so we work on it while sitting in the canteen waiting for the 12pm class. Jingyuan and i was quite stuck for a while and we think back to previous videos for NDP. The most memorable ones were the 90s kind of videos whereby everything is simple without graphics and with fanciful transition. We were kinda thinking of recreating one video of the same feel. We draft out a small storyboard. (i will scan in ltr) And on thurs after 3, the whole group will meet up to discuss in depth to whatever we have. Not sure whether the idea is going to work. See how it goes after discussion and consultation.

i missed the class today!!
48 hours competition through the weekends.. cause me to have a too little time on my learning contract.. thus affecting my sleeping time.. and in the end causing me to not coming class again.. I didn't realise it will be the last lesson. Honestly, i feel that my time management is very bad for now. There are too many things on hand. OKAYS. Stop complaining and get back to work!
Oh and the swine flu seems very serious now. With the temperature taking and all.
Im down with cough but i dont think it is the swine flu.
No worries (:

very sian
Today was bad. I didnt like it ): Hais firstly the props was too small.. All the preparation didnt work out as well as we wanted cos the lightings CHUI also.. I got kan chiong cause i did not have much chance with the mixer and also communicating with the camera people outside. Im just too kan chiong. Then directing with the cast wasn't that good too due to time constraint. Everything just wasn't that great.. But at least we tried.. Thats what i can only say. Helping Jake's group was fun as their planning was great and we have more timee working on rehearsals and etc. Having my hair all ties up, i feel like a pancake face. LOL. But for work, i wouldnt mind it of course. Just hope sincerly that i wouldnt score THAT badly and i would calm down more. YES I WILL.

Draft script!
Host
Question 1
Hi here with us today is a special guest from Temasek Design School, Mr________. Thanks for being here sir.
Guest
Oh it’s my pleasure (hand moves to his chest)
Host
So, tell us about your latest short film?
Guest
Oh we’ve just finished shooting “Lost Sandals” (holds up sandal) that took us about two months(card with '2'), and it’s been great. We’re hoping to get a positive(a '+' sign) support from everyone.
Host
Oh, that’s good to hear.
Question 2
So, what was your inspiration for the film?
Well, it’s based on my own experience when I was young. I lost my sandals(holds up shoes) while playing football(takes up football). It took me a big courage to actually walked home bare footed. It was just embarrassing but memorable.
Host
Question 3
How was the process of making your film?
Guest
The process was definitely tedious as it’s my first(takes out wrong card no '2' and quickly changes to no '1') time directing a short film. But working with such a great and supportive team made everything possible
Host
Question 4
Oh, but what were some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced?
Guest
Handling the unpredictable weather as most scenes were shot outdoors. and not forgetting our main cast, Johnny, who got into a minor incident on the day of shooting. We had to postpone the shoot till he fully recovers. It somehow affects the production but I’m glad everything’s fine now.(gives a thumb up)
Host
Question 5
Who are some of your favourite filmmakers?
Guest
Quentin Tarantino and Tim Burton(bring both their pics out) as they’re unique in their own way
Host
Question 6
Tell us more about your next project?
Guest
There are few projects lining up which includes a Chinese drama that I’m working on. But for the moment, I’m taking a breather as I’m getting married soon. (kept on talking non stop...)
Host
Oh congratulations! That’
So, thank you once again for being here and hope the film will be a success yeah.

What rinna came up with together with the actions i came up with (:
oh no ):
Today met up with jake, bet, jem, rinna, gary to have a small rehearsal for the interview tomorrow. Basically, we are just reading the lines and discussing about the actions, props and also the dressing for the host and interviewee. It ended quite quickly thou we are late (only me and bet) for an hour. Our content for the interview was more formal whereas their group's wasmore causual.. They wanted jingyuan and gary as the host and interviewee. But as jingyuan wasnt feeling well, she as being sub by me. They requested gary to be in shirt and a wig with gold rings etc. They wanted him to flex those fingers through the wig and talk in a slow lazy manner. The thought of it was already funny! HA! For my group, initially we just wanted a formal interview. But after some consideration, we wanted the director of our interview to be slightly more enthuisatic with more props on his hand to make the whole interview looks more lively. We wanted mal to be the host while jake could be the director. But as mal wasnt feeling well too, betty have to sub for her. HOPE BOTH OF OUR MATES CAN PULL THROUGH! PORK FLU! We asked bet to dress formal and jake to be in plain button up shirt and skinnies.
OH as for my title of this post states, i didnt realise that we are supposed to hand in the documents of the floor plan to bertrand(you)!!! We will hand in by tomorrow!!! When we are doing the interview!!! Sorry bout the delay.. Really didnt hear you saying until we asked the other group.. *slap ourself!*

rehearsal on technical side
Our group team up with jake's group for the in studio assignment and all of us thinks that its a good idea if we could do some rehearsal for thurs as we are like new to multicams and all. But as Jingyuan was not feeling that well, she left early so the rest stayed and so we only work with the techincal aspect as yuan is the interviewee for the their group. We waited for andrea's group to finish working on their rehearsal before starting ours. Basically, just setting up a rough guage for lightings so that all goes smoothly when it comes to our turn.
For my group, we are going to 4 point lighting. With two 1ks (one onto the backdrop and one to the subject) and 2 kinos (one on the floor and one on the subject). Thou im not sure whether it will be the final lightings. Still open to changes (:
We are going to settle the rehearsal for the interviews tomorrow and prepare props of we need any. Okay its late and i will go to sleep. NIGHT!

Lighting lessons!!
First time finally that i can really become some what like a gaffer. Because normally for productions, i dont really get the chance to handle lightings (due to height constraint). And it might be cause im accident prone too so i might just drop a few lights that people pull me away from doing this job. So when Rosali (if its his name...) came, he sort of understand the situation of the class and then proceed on to some resolution, which is spliting us, giving us some hands on work.
Im in Group 2 and we initially wanted to go level 6 and i went to check and there wasnt a suitable place for us to work on.. so in the end ,we found this classroom at level 4. The room got two big window so we can learn how to balance the exposure outside the window with the ones inside the room. At the start, we sort of experimented ourselves and then rosali came in to see us in mess. So he sort of took charge and tell us some ways to try it out. Using ceilings or whiteboard to bounce off lights, some lights as the back light to act as highlights and also to tighten the shot so as to cut off more light coming from the window as our equipment does not allow us to be able to balance the exposure outside the window. After the wide shot, he told us to change to the side CU of the subjects and using the window as the key light and maybe some lights at the front of the subjects to balance the lights.
But i think as an overall, we sort of made the lightings a little to safe as we sort of lit up the whole place instead of trying out different high contrasting lightings or some other ways of lighting. At least we did learn the main concept of lightings and get hands on work with it. A good start (: Really looking forward to more of it! YEAH!

1st entry of the module
HELLOs to all!!
Its been a long time since i did journal once again :\ So forgive me on my bad english. Okay school started bad because i just cant wake on time!! I put my alarm on at 700 but instead i woke up at 8-815 ): Sorry bertrand i will try my very best next week!!
Other then this problem im facing, class seems to be alright or in fact interesting (: I've always wanted to try mixing because during live shows, i often comment on other people's mixing skills. But i realised that it wasn't as easy as it seem. It requires alot of coordination with the camera people and also you must be very focus and able to think quickly when problems arrive.
Oh and im going to be the mixer for the up coming in studio assignment that we'll be doing. I hope i can focus and do a good job out of it thou the picture in picture parts are complicated.
jiayous to my group members(:
